If you haven't push your Android app to the Amazon Appstore yet, you are a moron

To start, let's be honest: It might not be as popular as Google Market, yet. It might not be beautiful, yet. It might not be on every Android Phone, yet. But it's a big deal right now, and it's gonna be huge in few months.

You heard about that Kindle Fire, didn't you? Yeah, that Android tablet that's going to hit the shelves by November 15th, at the very-very-very low price of $199.00. Read again, $199 and that's it. I don't think Amazon is going after the iPad, but they are going after a huge market that can't afford to buy an iPad. Just make the math: $499 vs $199. You can bet the Fire is gonna be in more than one wish-list for Christmas.

And together with the Fire, Amazon is going to inject the Appstore in every single device sold. Thousand if not millions of devices are going to be sold. Thousand if not millions of new users are going to run to the Appstore looking for Angry Birds et al. And you want to be there, for sure. Why not? Costs nothing to you and the user base for your app may add some digits.

And if you think Amazon is going to stop there, you don't know Bezos.

They are betting on Android. They built the Fire and they are working on different-future versions of the tablet. If the original Kindle is any indication, this is gonna be massive.

But there's more.

Right now Amazon provides a different experience for users when they want to buy / download something. And this includes more than one really-compelling feature that Google lacks. Read "Test Drive" apps and Deals.

With "Test Drive" users can play for 30 minutes with an app before buying it. How do you feel after spending a couple of bucks on the market just to find out that the app is just garbage? Sure you can "return" back the app for your money on Google's Market, but it's not something that everybody knows or want/can use. By test-driving the app you will know up-front how good it is and whether it's worth your bucks. People will love this (I do already), and with more users going to the Appstore (Amazon will make sure this is all they know), they will be more reluctant to change later.

With Deals you can get one paid app for free every day. Obviously, don't expect to find the greatest and hotest apps, but you can discover/download very good gems. Who doesn't like free? That's what I thought.

So everything is already set up. Users are waiting wallet-in-hand to November 15th to start the holiday season. Amazon made sure to add some reasons to force users into the Appstore. Now my question is, are you ready to profit from this opportunity?

  1. 7 inch table for $200? No thank you. I'm happy with my $99 Touchpad, and now I'm dual-booting WebOs and Android.
